Sinesi, Validoro 70, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday January 7, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Providence to the late John and Stella (Ingala) Sinesi, he leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Lorraine A. (Feeney) Sinesi, daughter Audrey Sinesi, her husband Thomas Chun, grandchildren, Stephanie, Katherine, Michael and Daniel Chun, son William Sinesi, sisters Rebella Sinesi and Lillian Reynolds, and brother Roland Sinesi. He was preceded in death by brothers Sam, Jerry, John, Charlie, and Don.
Val’s family was his passion and he loved being Papa. His favorite activities were taking fall New England car trips, hiking Walden Pond, teaching his grandchildren to play chess and playing baseball with them in the back yard. His other passion was mentoring and improving the lives of Rhode Island youths. Through his work with Big Brothers of Rhode Island, starting in 1970 as a social worker then serving as Executive Director from 1977-2012, his upbeat, ever positive personality touched the lives of thousands of Big and Little Brothers. Val was a graduate of La Salle Academy, Providence College, and Salve Regina University, and proudly served his country between 1968-70 as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 6-8. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to St. Martha’s Church.
