Shirley June (Orvis) Magsamen died June 27, 2016. She was born on June 14, 1920 to Gladys (Hiscox) and Calvin Orvis in Davison, Michigan. She leaves her devoted husband Joseph J. Magsamen, sister Mary Bogie, Jackson, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Calvin, Richard, and Gerald. Shirley was an RN and worked in Pediatrics for many years. She achieved the rank of Staff Sargeant in the Marine Corps during World War II. Shirley loved to sing and sang in choirs since the age of 13. An avid golfer, she played at Wannamoisett Country Club for over 30 years. Over 45 years Shirley crocheted more than 200 afghans for relatives and friends. Her calling hours and funeral will begin Saturday at 8:30 AM in the PERRY – McSTAY FUNERAL HOME 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to RISPCA 186 Amaral Street, East Providence, RI 02915.
