Maureen B. Whalen

Maureen B. Whalen, 71, passed away Thursday July 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (O’Loughlin) Whalen.

Maureen loved taking pictures, watching her soaps, and nothing like shopping for a good bargain. She enjoyed going out to eat and liked to bring home leftovers for her loyal dog Maggie. She loved going to see movie stars and traveling all over. She liked trips with her friends and Vegas, but going to Disney World to see Mickey with her family was her all time favorite.

Maureen worked for New England Telephone Company for over 30 years without missing a day of work. She loved her job and her friends from there.

She liked to keep watch over her neighborhood for over 40 years. No one would be getting away with not cutting their lawn or not taking their trash barrels in with her on patrol. She was known and adored for her feisty stubborn personality.

She cared about others more than herself her entire life. To say she was the type of person to give you the shirt off her back truly does her generosity no justice. The phrase she probably used most was “do you need anything?” because, she really wanted to do anything for you.

She took great pride in being 100% Irish and loved anyone and anything that symbolized her heritage.

She absolutely loved being a sister,…she just loved her brothers so very much and missed them every second. Spending time with her family and spoiling her nieces and nephews was the joy of her life. She will be missed everyday by her loving family and friends.

She leaves three nieces, Kelly Thiboutot and her husband Chad, Kerri Stepien and her husband Marc, Shannon Whalen, and one nephew Dr. William Whalen III and his wife Lynn. She also leaves 6 great nephews, Jeremy, Dylan, Brady, and Jake Thiboutot, William Whalen IV, Mitchell Stepien, and her sister in laws Joyce and JoAnn. She was the sister of the late John “Jack” and William “Bill” Whalen.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 24, 2019 at 9:30 am in St Dominic’s Church, 1277 Grand Army Highway, Swansea, Ma. Burial will be private. Calling hours respectively omitted.  Donations in Maureen’s memory can be made to the American Cancer society, 931 Jefferson Blvd, #3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
