Marjorie Judith Venter

Marjorie Judith Venter, also known as Sister, Ma, Aunt Marge, and Na came into this world on April 10, 1934, and left us on May 12, 2020. She was the daughter of Ardelle Charlotte Turner (Simmons) and Leroy Calvin Turner. She had five brothers: Arthur, Joseph, Leroy, Ernest and Louis.

Marjorie met Armond in high school and they were married for over 60 years. They had two children Armond and Judy, and three grandchildren Marjorie, Althena, and Thomas.

Everyone who knew Marjorie loved her dearly. She was known to be outspoken, an excellent cook, a wonderful host, a loving mother and grandmother, and a good friend. She went out of her way to help family and friends in need and made you feel right at home. If asked “how are you Marge,” her response was always “through it all,” because of her faith in God.

Marjorie attended Central High School. She worked in the Providence School System, at Classical and Hope High, for 20+ years as a Human Relations Specialist. She was known and loved by many of her students and made a lasting impression. Over the years, students grew to love her approach and thanked her for making a positive impact on their lives.

She was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was known for her pound cakes in the congregation. In addition to her love of the Lord, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, walking, going to the pool, people watching, playing tennis, sitting by the water, shopping, and speeding down I-95!

Marjorie is preceded in death by her father, mother, five brothers, son Armond, and husband Armond S Venter Jr. She leaves behind her daughter Judy Venter-Gaines, son-in-law Thomas Gaines, grandchildren Marjorie, Althena and Thomas (Speedy). She also leaves a host of family and friends from her childhood and adult years. She will be deeply missed but her spirit lives on through the beautiful memories and humor she left with us (calling everyone “Toots”).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send cards reflecting your fondest memories.

With heavy hearts, we extend our sincere condolences to Sister Margie's family. I met her at Ebenezer over 40 years ago, and found her to be a loving and warm Woman of God. I also have fond memories of the delicious food that she cooked for our Women's Day Celebrations. Sis. Margie, rest in peace from your labors down here. Heartfelt sympathy, Brenda & Ben Carr

Cousin Judy I am so sorry to hear about the passing of cousin Margie. I will always remember the time spent on Blackstone St. When my parents would bring me to visit. Your mom would feed us and always had something sweet to have after the meal . I will always remember her smile and her laugh. And how she welcomed my family into her home.. Praying that God will give you and your family comfort at this time.
