Marilyn A. ” Chickie” Maia, 79, of East Providence passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gilbert M. Maia and they were married for 64 years. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Eva (Charlonne) Hassell. Mrs. Maia was a jewelry worker for A&S Manufacturing before retiring. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves two daughters, Deborah Reis of East Providence and Lori Hanley of Warwick, three sons, Gilbert M. Maia, Jr. of Pawtucket, Brian Maia of East Providence and Dean Maia and his wife Teresa of Somerset, two grandchildren, Crystal Legault and Katarina Hanley, four great grandchildren, Olivia, Mia and Luke Legault and Jackson Westley, two step grandchildren, Stephanie and Vaughn Greenwalt, one brother Raymond Hassell and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Virginia Aquino and Louis Hassell. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 6-8.
