John R. Machado, Jr.

John R. Machado, Jr., 88 of Providence passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of Virginia V. (Almeida) Machado.

Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late John R. Sr. and Pauline (Monteiro) Machado.  Mr. Machado worked in management services at Providence College before he retired. Prior to that he worked for the Coro Manufacturing Company.

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Valerie Machado of Providence and Michele Jonni Machado and her companion Gary Jenkins of Providence, one stepson, James F. Vierra of Chepachet, three grandchildren, Joseph Gonsalves, Lauren Santos and her husband Juan Santos and Angelica Rosario, two great grandchildren, Jayden Santos and Jayce Santos and two sisters, Shirley Gonsalves of Florida and Mary Lury of Warwick. He was the brother of the late Abel Machado and Beatrice Varan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 10:00 AM in Holy Name Church, 99 Camp Street, Providence. Burial will be private.

OMG, John and his family lived on Lippitt St for years. His entire family were friends with our family. To his survivor's I send my condolences. I never met his family that he married into...but, send my sympathy. To his siblings, it has been years since we have been in one another's company, and sorry to hear of John's death.

My deepest sympathy to the Machado family. I remember Mr. Machado driving me and my sister to school. I knew him since I was a child and appreciated his kindness and his humor. My condolences and prayers to the Machado Family. I lived on one side of Lippitt Street and the Machado family lived on the other side. He was a wonderful person, husband and father. He will be missed by all who knew him. Another East Sider gone.
