James E. “Jim” Piquette, 58, of Barrington RI died in the comfort of his home on July 3, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Providence, he was a son of Evelyn (Alexander) Piquette Hendricks and the late Manuel Piquette.
Jim grew up in Seekonk, MA where he operated Firefly Golf Course after earning a degree in Turf Grass Management at UMass Amherst. He worked at various private golf clubs, becoming one of the first greens keepers to be recognized as a nationally Certified Golf Course Superintendent.
Jim was a longtime volunteer for the Seekonk Fire Department. He was inducted into the Seekonk Sports Hall of Fame in appreciation for his generosity to the High School golf team. In 2001, Jim fulfilled his lifelong dream by building Mulligans Island Golf and Entertainment Center in Cranston RI, which he continued to successfully manage until his illness. Jim was an avid sports fan, and a very generous friend to many.
Jim was a loving husband to his wife of 31 years, Patricia (Houle) Piquette. He was the proud father of 2 sons, Brian J. Piquette of Norton MA and Benjamin J. Piquette of Narragansett RI and a daughter Christa M. Piquette of Barrington. He also leaves a grandson Brandon J. Piquette.
He is survived by two brothers, Thomas Piquette of Seekonk MA and Kenneth Piquette of Putnam CT and one sister, Susan Maisano of Bristol RI and many nieces and nephews,
Jim will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 8:45 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Raymond’s Church, 1240 North Main Street, Providence.
