Jacob Cody Nyzio

Jacob Cody Nyzio, 24, of Barrington, died unexpectedly on July 5. He was the son of Brian M. and Anna-Maria (Antonio) Nyzio, also of Barrington.

A gifted, natural athlete, Jacob graduated from Barrington High School, Class of 2012, where he excelled on the hockey team. In his junior year, he decided he would play football for the first time, as well. The following year he was elected its team captain. From a young age, he loved playing sports and he played them well. In 2006, he hit a cycle grand slam while living in Riverside, where he also won Townie Pride Awards several years in a row.

Recent athletic accomplishments include his first-ever ski trip, when friends took him to the top of one of New Hampshire’s highest peaks for his initial run. Videos of the day confirm that by the time he got to the bottom, he was an intermediate skier. This happened on the golf course, too, when by the end of his first round, he was a respectable player.

As good as he was in sports, it was his good sportsmanship that truly set him apart. A real team player, he helped everyone be their best. He was genuinely concerned with the well-being of others, which complemented his friendly nature and added greatly to his appeal. He had a commanding presence, along with a big heart. Add to that, a booming voice, and it’s easy to see why he was voted class flirt at Barrington High.

Though he made time for fun, Jacob was a hard worker, who worked alongside his dad in his father’s painting business. He and his father were a real team—no doubt the most important team Jacob was ever part of. In addition to painting many area homes and businesses together, they would often fish and hunt together. Recently, they acquired a bass boat, which they trailered to Florida for a month-long adventure.

If there were an award for one of the best sibling teams, Jacob would have garnered one. He and his sister, Brianna, had a special bond that was the envy of many other families. Just 18 months apart, Jacob and Brianna shared a happy life that included many of the same friends and experiences.

In addition to his sister and parents, Jacob is survived by his maternal grandparents, Manuel and Maria Antonio of Seekonk, as well as his paternal grandmother, Sandra (Nyzio) Hayes of Florida. He was the grandson of the late Robert W. Nyzio, Sr.  He also leaves behind a great number of friends who will remember his generous spirit forever.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be private. Calling hours Friday 4pm to 8pm.
