Geraldine Frances Lee

Geraldine Frances Lee, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2020 surrounded by loving family at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island.   She was born on November 28, 1938 in Neptune, New Jersey.

Geraldine received her early education in the Neptune Township School District and graduated from Neptune High School.  As a preacher’s daughter, and a true Daddy’s girl, Geraldine grew up in the A.M.E. church where her father Rev. John Dona pastored for over 50 years.  She enjoyed singing in the choir and learned to play the piano by ear.   From a young age Geraldine and her sisters Elger and Carolyn followed a tradition established by her mother Elnora of wearing their “Sunday Best” to church and enjoying soul food dinners afterward.  At 19, she married the love of her life Rufus Isaac Lee, and had three beautiful children, Wayne Isaac (deceased), Donald Ellis and Ardena Frances.

Geraldine worked in the administrative field most of her life, first at Presbyterian Hospital in New York and retiring later at AT&T Bell Laboratory in New Jersey.  In 2012, Geraldine relocated from Neptune, New Jersey to Providence, Rhode Island to be near her one and only daughter Ardena, son-in-law Wilbert, and grandsons Nigel and Evan.

After settling in Rhode Island, Geraldine joined Ebenezer Baptist Church.  Geraldine loved attending church with her daughter and family. She also enjoyed socializing with her friends, making crafts, listening to entertainment, and participating in the activities at St. Elizabeth Court in Providence where she lived for 6 years.  She loved shopping, eating and spending time with her daughter’s family and their dog Chase.  Geraldine was affectionately known as “Gerri” to family and friends.  She was feisty and very particular about what she liked and wanted, and you could always count on her to tell you how she really felt.  Gerri had a big heart and family was very important to her.  Geraldine will always be remembered as beautiful classy woman of elegance and grace.  Geraldine will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

Geraldine was preceded in her death by her late parents, Rev. John Dona and her mother, Elnora Milton, her sister Elger Elliott, and her son, Wayne Isaac Lee.
