Evelyn P. Coelho-Masterson

Evelyn P. Coelho- Masterson, 97, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 at her home. She was the wife of Peter J. Masterson and the late Charles Coelho.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Ernesto Avignati and Mary (Bell) Vosselman.  Mrs. Masterson was a supervisor of the records department for the Aetna Insurance Company before she retired.

Besides her husband she leaves three children, Charles E. Coelho and his wife Civita, Susan M. Navega and her husband Stephen, Craig R. Coelho and she was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Dillon, and leaves her son in law, James J. Dillon. She also leaves six grandchildren, Stephen Navega II (Melissa), Nicole Navega, Danikka Dillon (Richard), Jennifer Coelho, Lisa Coelho Watson (Michael), Erika Dillon (Peter), eight great grandchildren, Stephen III, Madison, Nathan & Morgan Navega, Averi, Lily & Charlotte Senecal and Austin Watson, five stepchildren, Mark Masterson, Gary Masterson, Julie Gibney (Charles), MaryAnn Tschuta and Lisa Masterson and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Ursula Maaia and Florence Couto.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 from 4-7 in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.  In lieu of flowers contributions to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 would be appreciated. The guidelines set forth by the Rhode Island Department of Health will be observed. Face coverings are required and only fifteen people will be allowed in the building at a time.

As a child in the 1980s, I remember visiting Aunt Evelyn with my Nana (Ursula) and seeing her tremendous collection of dolls with intricate dresses and hairstyles. I'll always recall Aunt Evelyn as a timeless fashion plate herself. She carried a classic 60s mod hairstyle into her golden years along with a smile and carefree demeanor that never diminished in the near century she spent on this Earth.
