Donna L. Mitchell

Donna L. Edmonds Mitchell, known also in her native name as Minoweh Ikidowin (Clouds in the Wind); Born on February 16, 1948 to Harry H Edmonds and Kathleen A. (Stevens) Edmonds was called home to the Creator on Thursday, July 26, 2018. In 1987 Donna began her career at Brown University. During her 25 years of service at the University she had touched the lives of many, both of colleagues and students. It was also during this time that Donna was called by her ancestors to share the story of her peoples. After retiring from the University in 2011 she began to focus all of her energy on the restoration of the family homestead at the Watuppa Reservation in Fall River, Massachusetts where she resided. In her free time, Donna enjoyed several activities such as writing poetry, painting, attending powwows, storytelling, creating music and researching the history of her peoples and lands. Throughout her precious time on this Earth, Donna touched so many people with her words of wisdom and motherly guidance. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by the loves of her life, her two daughters Monique & Alicia Mitchell, their father Sammy Mitchell, and her grand-daughter Amirah Woodruff. Her brother Stephen Edmonds his wife Jane (Center) Edmonds, her sister Anita (Edmonds) Turner and her husband Donald Turner, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and lots of dear friends! Calling hours will take place Saturday, August 4th from 3pm-5pm with reflections from 5pm-6pm at the Perry-McStay Funeral Home located at 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island 02914.
