Anthony J. Amerantes

Anthony J. Amerantes, 81 of Second Street died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital.  He was the husband of the late Margaret G. (Aldrich) Amerantes.Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late Americo and Nellie (Gagila) Amerantes.   Mr. Amerantes worked in construction for  Local 251, International Union of Laborers.   He was a member of the Sportsman’s Club and also coached youth baseball for the East Providence Little League.  He was an avid fisherman and gardener, a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.  He was a devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He leaves three daughters, Deborah A. Silva of East Providence, Karen M. Moniz of Rumford and Diane L. Rapoza of Fairhaven, one son, Anthony J. Amerantes, Jr. of Riverside, three sisters, Mary Clark of East Providence, Eunice Enos and Linda Bragg both of Riverside, two brothers, Edward Amerantes of Florida and Joseph Amerantes of N. Carolina, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Kevin M. Amerantes and brother of the late Helen Vincent, Jean Jones, Manuel, Americo and Francis Amerantes.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, Taunton Avenue, East Providence. Burial with Military honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4-8. In lieu of flowers contributions to Sacred Heart Church would be appreciated.
