William Dias, Jr. 75 of Rumford, died Tuesday, March 05, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the former husband of Carol Hayward. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late William and Lydia (Yerid) Dias. Following graduation from high school, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy and after serving his time, he applied for and was hired as a Firefighter for the City of East Providence. During his years as a Firefighter he was also a self employed carpenter and a substitute school teacher. He was a graduate of Rhode Island College where he earned his degree in Fire Science and his Master’s Degree in Vocational Education. In his free time he enjoyed boating, camping trips and time at his summer place in Dennisport. He is survived by his children, Bruce, Brad and Kathy; his granddaughter, Porshia Nicole, his brother Edward Dias and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard Dias.The Dias family would like to thank the past and present members of the East Providence Fire Department. His funeral and visitation will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to Home & Hospice Care of RI would be appreciated.
