Vincent M. Lopes, 67, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of Wendy (Edmonds) Lopes. He was also the husband of the late Margaret (Dennis). Born in East Providence, he was a son of Mary Rose Sylvia and the late Edward Sylvia. Vini was a member of ILA 1329, International Brotherhood of Longshoremen for forty years and also served as Vice President for nine years. He was a member of the Brown Brothers Softball team and was an enthusiastic Red Sox and Patriots fan. Vini loved the outdoors. He traveled the country many times on his motorcycle and with his family in their motor home for over 25 years. He was a passionate and talented gardener and enjoyed playing golf. Above everything else he was devoted to his family. He was deeply loved and he will be truly missed. In addition to his wife and mother he leaves four children, Alicia Asomugha and her husband Barry, Vincent Dennis-Lopes and his wife Lisa, Raeanne Lopes and Blake Lopes, four grandchildren, Vincent Godette, Monika Asomugha, Haji Robertson and Konice Asomugha and eight siblings, Jean Lopes, Judith Haig and her husband Josiah, David Lopes, John Lopes and his late wife Cheryl, Mary Harrison and her husband Casby, Nina Sylvia, Patrick Lopes and Cheryl Angel, and Diane Sylvia and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Betty Carvalho, Michael Lopes, William and Bernard Sylvia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Michael’s Church, Oxford Street, Providence. Committal service will be at Swan Point Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.
