Vincent J. Wernig died on December 11, 2015 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was born on January 14, 1920 in Everett, Massachusetts. He graduated from Boston University and the Harvard Business School. He joined the Coast Guard in 1940 and served in World War II. He retired as a Commander in 1964. He began a second career at Brown University as Assistant to the Chairman and Executive Officer of the Department of Chemistry. He was married to Mary L. Curnane for 63 years. She predeceased him in 2012. He is survived by his six children: Anne (Tom) Echeverria of Greenfield, MA; Joan (Paul) Sorensen of Providence, RI; Jane (Steve) Metzger of Providence, RI; Mary Lou Wernig (Alan Shoer) of East Greenwich, RI; Ruth Wernig of Los Angeles, CA; and Robert Wernig who lives with his sister Jane and husband Steve. There are six grandchildren: David (Asha) and Kate Echeverria, Christian and Alice Sorensen and Leah and Sarah Shoer. The family wishes to thank Susan Marques who was a caregiver for both Vincent and Mary and was considered part of the family.
