Sylvia “Syl” A. Oliveira

Sylvia “Syl” A. (Hennessey) Oliveira, 80, was called to the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.  She was the wife of Antone T. Oliveira, DDS to whom she was married for 59 years.

Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Josephine (Savoie) Hennessey.

Sylvia won the Ms. East Providence beauty pageant in 1958 and was awarded the title Ms. Congeniality in the State Finals.  She was a Registered Nurse and a proud graduate of the Memorial Hospital Nursing School 1961.  She later went on and worked alongside her husband in his dental practice for many years.  She and her husband founded the Bay State Racquet Club in 1974 which later became Sherwood Ultra Sports.  She was an avid golfer, tennis player a member of the RIWGA and, a three-time women’s club champion at Crestwood C.C. and in Fort Meyers, FL.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who adored and loved spending time with her family.

Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Mark T. Oliveira and his wife Jeanne of Rehoboth, Matthew Oliveira and his wife Jamie of St. Augustine, FL, Michael Oliveira and his wife Nicole of Riverview, FL, one daughter, Beth Ann O’Donnell and, her husband Brian of Bradenton, FL, two sisters, Sybil Pezzelli of Rumford, Robin Meek of Glocester, RI, one brother, Raymond Hennessey of Swansea, 11 grandchildren, Travis Oliveira, Matthew Oliveira, Tyler Oliveira, Mitchell Oliveira, Maggie Oliveira, Joey Oliveira,  Logan O’Donnell, Landon O’Donnell, Mikey Oliveira, Gavin Oliveira, Liam Oliveira and, several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 14, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 984 Taunton Avenue, Seekonk.  Burial will be private.  In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rhode Island Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave., Providence, RI 02907 or Hope Hospice of Massachusetts, Attention: Philanthropy, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
