Shirley E. Cook, 80 of Blanding Avenue passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at her home. She was the wife of Bertram E. Cook. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Moses and Esther M. (Ramos) Cardoza. Mrs. Cook was a teacher’s assistant for special needs children in the East Providence School Department for over twenty years before she retired seven years ago. She was a member of the National Education Association and was a past President of the Teacher’s Assistants Union. She served on the Board of Directors at the East Providence Senior Center. Mrs. Cook was a member of St. Stephens Church and was active in many of the church organizations. Besides her husband she leaves one daughter, Sheila E. Tucker of Delaware, one son, Stephen E. Cook of Virginia, two sisters, Barbara Pack of East Providence and Elaine Cardoza of New Jersey, one brother, Moses C.A. Cardoza, Jr. of Ct. and several nieces, nephews and friends. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Stephen’s Church, 114 George Street, Providence. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Contributions to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
