Rose “Rae” McCaughey

Rose “Rae” McCaughey, 99, passed away peacefully with no regrets after a very full and rewarding life on Thursday, March 15, 2018 in Lockport, New York.  She was the wife of the late William F. McCaughey, Jr.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Palmino and Teresa (Spremulli) Basile.  Mrs. McCaughey was a resident of Beverly Beach, Florida for 27 years before moving to her daughters in Lockport.  She was also a previous resident of Warwick and Providence. She was a member of the Young Pannese Social Club and the Buttonwoods Beach Association.  Rae was an avid knitter and enjoyed cooking and dancing.  She was a strong willed person who stood up for what she believed in and was very dedicated to her extended family. If you needed to talk, she was always there to listen and to offer her sage advice.

She leaves one son, William F. McCaughey, III of Warwick and his former wife Tracy of Barrington, one daughter, Maureen Neumann and her partner David Van Schoonhoven, with whom she made her home, two brothers, Salvatore “Sonny” Basile and his wife Vilma of California and Lorenzo “Larry” Basile and his wife Agnes of Cranston, five grandchildren, Christine Voye and her husband Jeremy, Kerri Rose, Grace McCaughey, Liam McCaughey and Quinn McCaughey, five great grandchildren, Reilly Voye, Brenna Voye, Peyton Voye, Harris Rose and Mason Rose. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins and Paesans.   She was the sister of the late Anthony “T” Basile.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Martha’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 6-8.
