Robert Lynch, 91, died peacefully at Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Kingstown on Saturday after a brief residence in the facility. He was married for 45 years to the late Mabel (Bushee) Lynch until her death in 1992. Robert was the loving father of four children, Candace Lynch, of Warwick, Charles Lynch and his wife Elizabeth of Coventry, Carol Hartley and her husband Richard of South Kingstown, and Robin Lynch of Bristol. He was also the beloved grandfather of Kelly, Robert, Rob, Chip, Elizabeth, and Michael.
Born in Taunton, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Charles and Emma Lynch, and the brother of the late William and John Lynch. Robert served in World War II with the 13th Jungle Air Force of the Army in the Philippines. After the war he attended Bryant to receive a degree in business and worked in hospital administration for many years. Living in East Providence, RI for most of his life and raising his family there, he was a parishioner of St. Martha’s Church and served as the Executive Vice-President of Administration at St. Joseph’s Health Services and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital until his retirement in 1988. In retirement he moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, summering in Warwick, RI, until his last years when he moved back to RI. Robert was an avid reader and enjoyed movies, he played many rounds of golf, and he was a fan of the Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 1 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME 2555 Pawtucket Avenue in East Providence, RI. His funeral will follow with an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue; burial with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Flowers are respectively omitted; contributions in his memory to the Peace River Wildlife Center, 3400 Ponce de Leon Parkway, Punta Gorda, FL 33950 would be appreciated.
