Richard A. “Dick” Vermette, 73, of Seekonk passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 1, 2017. He was the husband of Ellen L. (Coffey) Vermette.
Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late Joseph T. and Elizabeth M. (Warner) Vermette. Dick, recently retired, was the co-owner of Vermette Brothers Lumber Company. He was a 1961 graduate of East Providence High School where he was a championship wrestler. He attended the University of Bridgeport and was a graduate of Rhode Island College where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Arts Education. He was an accomplished wine maker and received many awards for his wine making. He was a member of the American Wine Society and a member of the American Brittany Club; raising champion field & show dogs. Dick was also an avid hunter, and hunted in several countries . He belonged to the East Warren Rod & Gun Club and the Somerset Sportsman Club. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family and working in his yard.
Besides his wife he leaves one son, Bryan D. Vermette and his wife Carolyn of Alaska, one daughter, Janet Anne Vermette of Florida, two grandchildren, Charlie & Mason also of Alaska, one brother, Charles Vermette of Bristol and one sister, Elizabeth Reynolds and her husband Brian of Canada, many nieces and nephews and countless friends who adored him.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Taunton Avenue, Seekonk. Burial will be in Seekonk Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4-8. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church would be appreciated.
