Monica L. Keenan

Monica L. Keenan, 67, of East Providence, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at her home. She was the wife of James M. Keenan.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Henry J. and Gladys C. (Rose) Fortes. Monica was a Laborer for Local 271 from 1986-2015 before she retired.

Besides her husband she leaves one son, Duane L. Fortes and his wife Kathleen of East Providence, one sister, Anita M. Parsons of East Providence, three brothers, Steven H. Fortes of Cranston, Daniel M. Fortes of Connecticut and Richard A. Fortes of East Providence, six grandchildren, four stepchildren and five Godchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 4-8 PM in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Masks are required and only 15 people will be allowed in the building at one time. Her funeral service will be private.

Dear Anita and family I just found out about Monica passing through Nina . I will always remember the good times we all had at the old Lying Hospital. Anita, Steven, the Fortes, and Keenan families. I’m extremely saddened to hear of Monica’s passing. As a childhood friend, I know she had a big heart and was always a joy to be around, with laughs and antics. I will sorely miss her. I wish I could come up from Florida and tell you personally but can’t so please accept my sincere and heartfelt condolence.

I didn't know Monica well. She was my daughter KATs mother-in-law. I saw the tremendous amount of love she had for her son and my daughter and her step grandchildren. She treated them all as if they were all her own. Such a big heart and a good woman.

My deepest sympathy to the Fortes/Keenan families. Monica was my friend for 50 years and I will miss her terribly. Her smile and love of life was truly contagious.
