Maria Tome Fernandes, 85, of Clyde Street, Pawtucket passed away Wednesday February 3, 2016 at the Hallworth House in Providence. She was the wife of Silvestre Fernandes to whom she was married for 50 years. Born in Loule, Algarve, Portugal she was a daughter of the late Joao and Irene (de Jesus) Martins. Mrs. Fernandes was a Nurses Aide for Pawtucket Institute of Health Services before retiring. She was a prolific knitter, was a great cook and baker, had a passion for writing letters, loved dancing and spending time with her family. Besides her husband she leaves two sons, Paul Fernandes and his wife Debra of Coventry and Steve Fernandes and his wife Melissa of Cumberland, four grandchildren, Nathan, Grace, Talia and Jacob Fernandes and her God mother Maria Pinto. She was the God daughter of the late Teresa Pinto and sister of the late Beatriz Cabrita, Isidoro Martins dos Santos, Joao Martins dos Santos and Laura Martins dos Santos. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on WEDNESDAY at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary’s Church, Pine Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
