Maria Celeste Silva, 87, of Pawtucket, RI passed away Wednesday July 22, 2015 at the South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Kingston, RI. Celeste was born October 21, 1927 in Feteira, Faial, Azores to Jose and Maria de Conceicao Lopes. She retired from American Insulated Wire after many years with the company. A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Celeste was also active in the Catholic Charismatic groups in Rhode Island and enjoyed speaking to groups to spread the word of God. She will be most remembered for her joy of cooking and baking, which she shared freely with her family and friends. Celeste married Mario C. Silva on July 28, 1951 in Faial and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Mario’s passing. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters; Natalia Furtado and Ines Lemos. She is survived by her two daughters Fern Bergersen and her husband Leonard, and Linda Stiebris and her husband Valdis; as well as two grandsons Jack Bergersen and Eric Bergersen; and her sister Estella Fortuna. Her funeral and visitation will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM in the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church, 195 Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Amos House, 415 Friendship St., Providence, RI 02907.
