Maria C. Maciel, 87, of East Providence, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020. She was the wife of the late Francisco S. Maciel.
Born in Sao Caetano, Pico, Acores she was a daughter of the late Jose Nunes da Silva and Maria Augusta Silva. Maria was a talented and gifted artisan crocheter her entire life. She created many works of art and her hands were visibly weathered because of it, but it never hindered her artistry. She also worked mostly as an Inspector. At work and at home, nothing much got past her. She also loved gardening and had an impressive flower garden which she worked tirelessly on. Her talents, work and interests were secondary to her generosity and love of family. In particular, her drive to continue living was her selfless adoration of her two granddaughters, Lydia and Lorna. Spending time with them was her best medicine. She was deeply religious and a woman of faith. Her commitment to Mary and the Holy Spirit helped guide her throughout her life. Her family and friends are feeling a profound loss, but knowing she is in the Grace of God is a tremendous comfort.
She leaves one daughter, Elizabeth Maciel Nassef and her husband Andrew of Seekonk, two granddaughters, Lydia Nassef and Lorna Nassef, one sister, Fatima Avila and her husband Herminio and their son Jorge. She leaves twelve other nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Amilcar Nunes, Maria Jorge, Etelvina Serpa, Jose Nunes and Leovegilda Nunes.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford.
