Manuel E. Bernardo
Manuel E. Bernardo, 95, of East Providence and formerly of Providence, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria (Da Luz) Bernardo to whom he was married for 53 years.
Born in Rabo de Peixe, São Miguel, Azores. He was the son of the late Theodore & Maria de Estrela (Terceira) Bernardo.
Mr. Bernardo immigrated to the United States in 1969, and lived in Providence for 40 years and later moved to East Providence to live with his son Hector and his wife Manuela. He was a well-known fisherman for many years and also worked at Art Vac of Lincoln until he retired. He was a devoted and loving Father and Grandfather. He will always be remembered for his singing, storytelling and his love for wearing flannels and hats.
He was the loving father of nine children. The late José Estrela and his wife Maria José of Brampton Ontario, Manuel Estrela and his wife Adelina of East Providence, Trindade Pacheco and her husband Jose of Warwick, Anthony Estrela and his wife Oriana of Providence, Mary Lou Mikhail and her husband Valentino of East Providence, Cidalia Estrela and her husband José of Swansea, Maria Arruda and her husband James of Seekonk, Teresa Bernardo of Warwick, and Hector Bernardo and his wife Manuela of East Providence, three brothers, Armando Bernardo, Anastasio Bernardo, Moses Estrela, and one sister, Zelia Carreiro, 28 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Gabriel Bernardo and Jose Rebello.
His funeral and visitation will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021, from 9-10 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse Street, Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
