Laura J. Johnson

Laura J. Blackston Isom passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late John and Mamie Blackston. Laura was born in Baltimore, MD and lived most of her life in Rhode Island. She was the beloved mother of Deborah (James) Foster of Jacksonville, FL, Ida (Michael) Blair of East Providence, RI, Lillian (Raymond) Shorts of Kissimee, FL and Theora (James) Fluker of Jacksonville, FL. She also leaves to mourn 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Laura was an avid cook and diligent worker. She was wmployed as a nurse for the State of Rhode Island and also worked for the Fain’s who became an extended family. She loved to travel and enjoyed her family. She was a fashionista (loved to dress fancy) and for those who really knew her, she was a very funny lady. Proceeded in her death two sons, Frederick and Michael Isom, two sisters, Ida and Ada Blackston and two brothers, John and Randolph Blackston. Her funeral will be held Friday at 10:00 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Saint Martha’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 4-8.
