Kevin M. Murray

Kevin M. Murray, 54, of Rumford passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 3, 2018. He was the husband of Ellen M. (McKenna) Murray.

Born in Providence, he was a son of Carolyn M. (McCabe) Murray and the late Joseph E. Murray.   Kevin was an elementary school teacher for the Woonsocket School Department for the last 17 years.  He was also employed at Ocean Tides- De Lasalle Christian Brothers as a residential counselor in the 1980’s. The world of Lacrosse was a big part of Kevin’s life for over 40 years. He was an outstanding player, teammate and coach, and he had a tremendous impact on the lives of countless young men. He was the current Head Coach at Bishop Hendricken High School, winning 5 State Championships, and previously was the Head Coach at La Salle Academy and Providence College.  Kevin was the Captain of his team at La Salle Academy and named to the All State and All New England teams. He played on nationally ranked teams in college at L.I.U.-C.W. Post University. Kevin was honored to be named as a coach of the Boys National High School All Star Showcase team and the Men’s Division One College North- South All Star Game. He was a member of the RI Interscholastic League Lacrosse Advisory Board and Director of Roots Lacrosse.

Above everything else, Kevin was devoted to his family. Besides his wife and mother he leaves five children, Sean Murray,  Alice Zossou, Daniel Murray, Michael Murray and Jake Murray, two brothers, Steven D. Murray and Joseph E. Murray, Jr. and his wife Nicole and their three children, Nicholas Mercurio, Emmah Murray and Ella Murray, two grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:45 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 4-8.
