Juanita A. Hammond, 85, of Providence, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in North Providence, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Anna (Soares) Araujo. Mrs. Hammond was a Teacher for Providence Head Start for 20 years before retiring. She was a volunteer at Saint Michael’s Church and a member of the Fox Point Boys and Girls Club. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She leaves two sons, Keith S. Hammond and Eugene F. Hammond, Jr., five daughters, Paula A. Hammond, Denise M. Anderson, Crystal M. Hammond, Terri A. Hammond and Kisha A. Hammond, eight sisters, Delores Taylor, Mary Best, Frances Nicholas, Julia Fortes, Deanna Love, Angel Thornton, Isabel Evans and Patricia Joseph, three brothers, Louis, Eddie and David Araujo, fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Kim M. Hammond and sister of the late Antonio Araujo, Jr., John and Arthur Araujo. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 8:45 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Name Church, Camp Street, Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 4-8.
