Joseph A. “Wowie” Monteiro, 77, of Alabama Avenue, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Maureen (Blunt) Monteiro.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Mary (Alves) Monteiro. Wowie was an employee for the State of Rhode Island before he retired and also had been a Longshoreman for many years. He was an alumni of the Fox Point Boys Club.
Besides his wife he leaves three children, Dr. Lamona Monteiro of Clarksville, Maryland, Rayna Robinson and her husband James of Mitchellville, Maryland and Nicole Soares of Providence, one sister, Eleanor Monteiro Rose of Providence, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Joseph Washington.
He also leaves a daughter, April Vasquez, two sons, Marty and Anthony Washington. He was well loved by his aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse Street, Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4-8.
