Jose Pacheco, 90, of Fort Street passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Gilberta (Amaral) Pacheco. Born in Lomba do Carro Povoacao, Sao Miguel, Azores he was a son of the late Jose Pacheco and Maria Rosa Linhares. Mr. Pacheco worked in the housekeeping department at Rhode Island Hospital before he retired. While living in Sao Miguel, he was a Taxi driver. In his younger days, he was a star volleyball player and was well known as “Canhoto” in his hometown of Lomba do Carro Povoacao. He loved to sing and listen to “O imprevisto” Portuguese singing. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His pride and joy were his two grandsons. Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Mary Rose Pacheco of East Providence, one son, Joseph M. Pacheco and his wife Kathy J. Pacheco of Cranston and two grandsons, Joseph M. Pacheco, Jr and Devin C. Pacheco. He was the brother of the late Manuel Pacheco Linhares, Dionisio Pacheco and Lucinda Mota. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 4-8. Please omit flowers.
