Jorge H. Pires

Jorge H. Pires, 71, of Pawtucket, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 11, 2019.  He was the beloved husband of Maria E. (Bettencourt) Pires.  Born in Terra Chá, Terceira, Azores, he was a son of the late José De Sousa and Maria Delfina (Pires) Anastacio.

Jorge immigrated to the United States in 1973 with his family and settled in Fox Point briefly and later moved to Pawtucket.  He worked in environmental services for Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island until his retirement.  He was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Pawtucket and an Indoctrinated member of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He was a past member and active Criador of the Irmandade do Divino Espirito Santo of St. Anthony’s Church in Pawtucket, and the Nova Alianca marching band of Pawtucket.  Jorge enjoyed fishing, his vast tool collection, fleamarkets and working in his workshop making furniture and various items for family and friends. He appreciated Portuguese Music, and Cantorias Ao Desafio as well as various marching bands. Jorge was a simple man that enjoyed the simple things in life. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He will be truly missed by his family and friends. He had a special place in his heart and adored his grandson Maksim. He was an avid animal lover and will be missed by his furry friend, Logan.

Besides his wife Maria, he is survived by two daughters, Manuela Tambollio and her husband Jon of Franklin, MA, Isabel Joharjian and her husband Rafi of Whitinsville, MA, and one grandson, Maksim Joharjian, two sisters, Luisa Ponceano and her husband José of Pawtucket,  Maria Cabral and her husband Gilberto of North Smithfield and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late José Isidro Anastacio and Luis Anastacio.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at 10:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 AM in St. Mary Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket, RI. Burial will be in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 13, 2019, from 4-7 PM.
