John L. Born in Providence he was a son of the late Joseph D. and Mabel (Hall) Metts Bennett. Born with special needs, he attended the Ladd School in Exeter, RI; and also attended school in New York City. Blessed with a great memory and knowledge of geography, John had unique ability and knew the capitals of every state and country. He was a resident of Providence, New York City and East Providence. Affectionately called uncle Johnny, uncle John, John or Mr. Metts was born into a Catholic family. He was a communicant of the Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul and would attend the Ebenezer Baptist Church with his in-laws, the Robertson family. He was known for his special ability to show love to all, and was loved by all for this and also for his humility and great manners. He was a volunteer at the Cathedral Square Apartment buildings; and in 2004, received the volunteer of the year award from Meals on Wheels. John loved to walk everywhere; and he loved music, especially Country and Western. John was cared for by family and never married or had children.
