John E. Ferreira

John E. Ferreira was surrounded by the love of his wife, Rita Oliveira Ferreira, and his family when he passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at his home in Palm Harbor, Florida.  The son of his beloved parents Idelmira and Manuel S. Ferreira, John was a dedicated maritime marine and cook who was most proud of working for Exxon. His greatest joy was his wife, Rita, and five girls whom he raised in East Providence, Rhode Island. He retired with Rita to Palm Harbor, FL where he became a member of the Knights of Columbus. John was always surrounded by his children and grandchildren whether he was making them laugh with his endless jokes, winks, and special pucker smile, captivating them with his ingenuity and knowledge, or telling stories about his journeys in life around the kitchen table.  A man of few but powerful words, John led and served with a smile every day of his life through love, kindness, generosity, and gratitude. He devoted himself as a selfless protector for his family as he guided each member through their own journeys in life with his love and wisdom.  Though completely broken hearted, family and friends remember John as a teacher and life long learner, a seaman, an artist, a storyteller, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, and in the truest meaning, a great man of faith. He was adored and is deeply missed by his wife Rita; his five daughters and their husbands, Debra and David Edmondson, Darlene and John Dittmeier, Diana and John Livingston, Doreen and Michael Werdann, and Dione and Jonathan Scott Stillwell; and his eight grandchildren, Tessa with her husband Joseph  Betancourt, Connor, Caitlyn, Sean, Zoë, Ethan, Trentin, and Preston.  He also leaves behind both his loving sister Dolores Anahory and her husband Adelino, and his brother Julio Ferreira and his wife Eugenia, as well as his brother-in-law John Oliveira and his wife Fernanda. The entire family will cherish his loving memory.  With his unforgettable sparkling blue/green eyes and amazing smile, John E. Ferreira gave everyone the blessing of seeing life through the spirit of a child, finding purpose in the selflessness of a giver, and understanding that love is strength.  His funeral will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.
