John B. “Tuddy” Lopes, 78, of Woodbine Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of Erma J. (Montgomery) Lopes. He was born in Providence, a son of the late Joao L. and Maria (Nobre) Lopes. Mr. Lopes was a Firefighter for the Providence Fire Department before retiring. He was also a Longshoreman for Local 1329. He was an Army Veteran . The family would like to thank the hospice center for the wonderful care that they gave to John. Besides his wife he leaves one son, Keith D. Lopes , three sisters, Ernestine Britto, Theresa Harris and Elizabeth Lopes, two brothers, Antonio Lopes and Albert Lopes, two grandchildren, Alaina Lopes and Christina Lopes-Fernades, two great grandchildren and one brother-in-law whom he raised Dr. John M. Montgomery. He was the grandfather of the late Keith D. Lopes Jr. and brother of the late Augusta Lopes, Rose Santos, Marcellina Soares and Adeline Lopes. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:45 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Name Church, 99 Camp Street, Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 5-8.
