Irene V. Penha, 83, of Blanding Avenue, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of Frank G. Penha, Jr. Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts she was a daughter of the late Julio and Narcissa (Viera) Almada. Mrs. Penha worked as a Unit Secretary for Rhode Island Hospital before retiring. She was a communicant of Saint Francis Xavier Church and also a member of the choir. She was a member of the Cape Verdean Progressive Center and the Women’s Guild. Besides her husband she leaves five daughters, Gail “Penny” Penha of Maryland, Lisa Penha of East Providence, Anna Mauricio of East Providence, Francine Manar of Providence, and Terri Latimer of North Providence, five sons, Ranaldo “Ron” Penha of Riverside, Robert Penha, Sr. of Saunderstown, Jerome Penha, Sr. of Dighton, Frank G. Penha, III of Virginia, and Guy Penha, Sr. of East Providence, three sisters, Maria do Carmo Faial of East Providence, Arlinda Santiago of East Providence, and Ludi Sotto- Mayor of Portugal, three brothers, Orlando Almada of East Providence, Napoleao Almada of New Bedford, and Baldwin Almada of Holand, twenty three grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the sister of the late Nair Almada Marques. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 2-4 & 7-9.
