Gwendolyn P. (Johnson) Butler, 85, of Second Street died Thursday August 28, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She was the wife of Charles H. Butler. Born in Providence she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Matilda (Woods) Johnson. Mrs. Butler was an Engraver for Emblem and Badge Company in Providence for twenty three years before retiring. She was an avid bowler, a member of W.I.B.C. National Tournaments for 35 years and was also a volunteer at the soup kitchen for the Cathedral of Saint John for over twenty years. Besides her husband she leaves one daughter, Nancy A. Hardy and her husband Leonard of Illinois, two grandchildren, Adriana (Hardy) Johnston of Maryland and Leonard Hardy III of Illinois, one great granddaughter, Raven Johnston and one brother, Robert W. Johnson of East Providence. She was the sister of the late Marjorie Hughes, Benjamin Johnson, Jr., Mildred Smith, Emily Young, Marion Robinson and Grace Handy. Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 4-7.
