Gil J. Chaves, 73, of East Providence passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Gabriella M. Chaves for 50 years.
Born in Santa Maria, Azores he was a son of the late José and Paulina (Melo) Chaves. Mr. Chaves was a welder/fabricator for the City of East Providence for 25 years. Gil ventured and partnered with his son Paul in the formation of a new business, P&G Irrigation. He enjoyed fishing and traveling on cruises. He was a skilled craftsman that enjoyed making sculptures made of metal as well as carving one of kind pieces out of wood. He will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather.
Besides his wife he leaves a son, Paul E. Chaves and his wife Paula of Rehoboth, three grandchildren, Landon, Julia and Angelina Chaves, four sisters, Audette Chaves, Fatima Bairos, Georgiana Boavida and Olga Chaves, seven brothers, José Chaves, Jorge Chaves, Lidio Chaves, Breno Chaves, Nelson, Chaves, Paulo Chaves and Helio Chaves. He was the brother of the late Carlos Chaves and Noemia Moura.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
