E. Joan Smith, of Carpenter Street, Rehoboth died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at her home. She was the wife of Robert A. Guertin and the late William H. White and David L. Smith. She was born in Cranston, a daughter of the late Albert G. and Elsie G. (Ringe) Berghahn. Joan was a Real Estate Broker for over thirty years and was co-owner of David Smith Real Estate. She was a member of the National, State and Local Board of Realtors and a Past President of her local Board of Realtors. She was a member of the Anawan Grange for over 55 years, the Anawan Lions Club and the Purple Passionate Red Hat Society. She was a past member of the Rehoboth Women’s Activity Club and the Rehoboth P.T.A. Joan loved dancing, reading, gardening, traveling and crossword puzzles. Besides her husband she leaves one son, Albert W. White, four daughters, Linda deVarennes, Elizabeth J. Barboza, Diane E. Fyfe and Donna E. Nerney, eight stepchildren, Rebecca, Rachel and David Smith, Diane Kinnally, Lori Alburn, Robert, David and Rodney Guertin, one sister, Paula Perkins, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. She was the mother of the late Catherine White and sister of the late Lois Munroe and Carolyn Whitman. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Taunton Avenue, Seekonk. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.
