Daniel M. Rowe

Daniel M. Rowe, 88, of Barrington and formerly of Rumford, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.  He was the husband of Karen (Schmidt) Rowe.

Born in Portland, ME, he was a son of the late Daniel and Bryde (O’Connor) Rowe.

Dan graduated from Villanova University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the Pennsylvania highway department briefly, then in the construction field.

Dan loved eating, enjoying a glass of wine or a cocktail, joking, playing hockey into his 70’s and retelling tales of adventures and misadventures from his youth or college. He was an active and passionate volunteer and teacher in the community. AND, he always told every nephew, niece, and younger cousin that each was his favorite.

Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Daniel Rowe of Florida, Christopher Rowe of Minot, ND, four stepchildren, David Shaw, Mark Hellendrung and his wife Katie of Middletown, Beth Bishop and her husband David of Doylestown, PA, Jason Hellendrung and his wife Lynne Castronuovo of Brookline, MA, one brother, Don Rowe and his wife Nancy P. Gerhard-Rowe of Fredericksburg, VA, 12 grandchildren, Nathan, Manny, Bryde Rowe, Ava, Eliza, Maeda, Maya and Bryce Hellendrung, and Ben, Brigitte, Brooke and Blake Bishop.  He was the brother of the late David and Dennis Rowe.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday September 23, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Margaret’s Church, 1098 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford.  Face coverings are required and social distancing will be observed. Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations are respectfully requested to Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871, the Rumford Food Pantry (Bread of Life) 100 Newman Ave, Rumford, RI 02916 or a charity of your choice.

We were saddened to hear of Dan’s passing this morning at church. We always enjoyed seeing him whether at a Lions event or a support group meeting. The Rumford community is a little less bright with his passing .

I met Dan when we played Hockey at Dudley Richards always a smile and a gentleman, I would see him from time to time while he was volunteering with the Lions Club and we would have some laughs, my thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family.

Karen, Always enjoyed working with Dan the the Bread of Life!! He was the driver of our grocery cart....and the elevator was his best friend. The last time I worked as a bagger, I asked...where is Dan?? Told that he had retired! May in rest in the arms of the Lord!!
