Beverly E. Catala 82, of Providence passed away on Sunday September 6, 2015 at her home. She was the wife of the late Luis Catala. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Dollie (Greene) Royster. Mrs. Catala was a teachers assistant and also a bus monitor for the Providence School Department before she retired and was a shop stewart for many years for Local Teamsters Union 1033, Providence School Department. She was a member of the Congdon Street Baptist Church, the Camp Street Ministry, the St. Martin de Porres Center and Sister to Sister. She was a Board Member of the Camp Street Community Action Program and also a Board Member of the Mount Hope Neighborhood Association. Mrs. Catala also belonged to Lippitt Hill tutorial program. She leaves three daughters, Deacon Juana Catala-Huguley and her husband Deacon Harry Huguley, Wanda Sharif and her husband Curtis, Dollie Catala-Morgan and her husband Kevin, two sons, Juan Catala and Randall Ward and his wife JoAnn, one sister, Lorraine Bickham, one brother, Spider Royster, 28 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Luis Catala, Jr., grandmother of the late Sonia Huguley-Huddleston and sister of the late Victoria “Lovie” Carew, Julian “Sonny” Royster, Archibald Royster, Joseph “Kenny” Royster, June “Bernice” Smith and Shirley Cole. Her funeral and visitation will be held on Saturday in the Congdon Street Baptist Church, 17 Congdon Street, Providence. Visitiation will be held from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM with her funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Providence.
