Armond S. Venter Jr.

Armond was born on August 30, 1931 and transitioned on August 11,2015. He was a son of the late Armond Sr. and Sarah (Smith) Venter and was the eldest son of five siblings, Pearl Fridia, Louise McKay, Howard Venter, William Venter and Raymond Venter. He attended Vineyard St. School, Gilbert Stuart Jr. High and graduated from Central High School in June, 1950. Armond became a member of Church of God and Saints of Christ at 16 years of age. He was blessed by Elder Waters and Baptized by Elder Benjamin Watkins. He loved sports, especially football, and was known for his speed on the Central Football Team. He was inducted into the Army on January 5, 1953 and was stationed in France. Armond married Marjorie Judith (Turner) Venter on January 5, 1953 and had two children, Armond Steven Venter and Judy Marie Venter-Gaines. He worked for his dad’s company, A. Venter and Sons Oil for 30 years. He also was a computer operator for Amica Insurance Company. He survived by his wife Marjorie J. Venter to whom he was married for 62 years, his daughter Judy M. Venter- Gaines and her husband Thomas and his three grandchildren, Marjorie Krakue, Althena Gaines and Thomas Gaines. He was the father of the late Armond Steven Venter. Armond was a great husband, supportive dad and was always willing to assist anyone with a concern. He was innovative in terms of making things work. He loved traveling,camping, swimming, the ocean, sports and above all he loved his family. He enjoyed his music, namely spirituals, blues and jazz. He was a strong person who did not complain about discomfort on his journey. One of his favorites sayings became “Through It All”! His funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 2:45 PM in the Redwood Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, RI 02906. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Swan Point Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
