Maria A. deLacerda, 72, of Bay Spring Avenue, Barrington passed away Sunday May 28, 2017 at her home. Born in Cedros, Faial, Acores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio G. and Filomena (Escobar) deLacerda. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island, she went on to receive her Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut. She entered into the Peace Corps where she served three years. Ms. deLacerda was a social worker for the State of Rhode Island before retiring in 1990. She leaves two sisters, M. Laura McKenna and Helen Bragger, two nieces, Gabriela Gentile and Jodi McKenna, three nephews, James McKenna, IV, Frederick Walden and Robert Bragger, two great nieces, Rebecca Stachurski and Dorianne Snay, one great nephew, Brayden Cunningham and one great great niece, Karlee Ana Snay. She was the sister of the late Albertina Penny. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saint Martha’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, East Greenwich. Calling hours Wednesday 5-8.
