Verna T. Rao, 89, formerly of Newport passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late John C. Rao, Jr. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Tammelleo) Tramonti. Mrs. Rao was the owner and operator of the former Williams Street Antiques and Collectibles in Newport. She was a volunteer for ESL for adult learners in Newport and also volunteered at the Greenville Public Library. She was a member of the Newport Garden Club. She leaves two daughters, Leslie R. Warren and her husband John of Greenville and Hilary Rao and her husband Steven Cramer of Lexington, MA, six grandchildren, Jennifer, Kate, Laura, John, Charlotte and Ethan, three great grandchildren, Brandon, Anthony and Mason, one brother, Donald Tramonti and one sister, Ruth Damiano. She was the sister of the late John Tramonti, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM in Saint Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Saint Columba Cemetery, Middletown. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
