Helen (Merandi) Pezza

Helen (Merandi) Pezza, age 87, of East Providence, died peacefully at home on February 20, 2016 after a valiant struggle with cancer.  Born June 30, 1928 in East Providence, Helen was the daughter of the late Pietro and Conchetta (Quattrucci) Merandi. Helen worked as a bookkeeper and executive secretary for Kennecott Wire and Cable Company before dedicating her life to raising her family.  She was a communicant of Our Lady of Loreto Church and a member of the Maria Lodge of the Sons of Italy (OSIA). In addition to her devoted husband of 65 years, Michael Pezza, Helen leaves her daughter, Valerie M. Peterson and her husband, Robert J. Peterson of Barrington, her son Michael P. Pezza and his wife M. Paige Webster of East Providence, and her four beloved grandchildren, Robert James Peterson II, Brian James Peterson, Sophia Marie Pezza and John Michael Pezza.  Helen is also survived by her brother, John Merandi of East Providence.  She was preceded in death by her brother, William Merandi, also of East Providence.  Helen loved her family, her Italian heritage and the opera. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and took great pride in the activities of her grandchildren.  Helen enjoyed travelling with her husband to many WWII Veterans’ reunions. She loved the ocean and sunsets at Barrington Beach.  She treasured time spent with her family especially around the dinner table, being a creative cook who took pleasure in passing on recipes to her grandchildren.   A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Noon on Friday, February 26 at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Ave., East Providence. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Calling hours will be held on Friday morning from 9:30 – 11:30AM in the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Ave, East Providence. The family requests that flowers respectfully be omitted.
